I had a discussion once about "Shame" with a cousin, he was from the "old country" and had settled in Canada in the 1960's. We talked about how "shame" can make a victim feel worse, and how complusions can be made worse by attaching "shame" to an action. But we agreed that overall, the lack of "shame" has made our society, our lives, and our government worse. And today I have the latest example in my hands....the latest bit of putrid lies put out by "Salem Residents for Truth Half-Truths." You can look at their latest Flyer - if you have some Rolaids.
Frankly, refuting this made up stuff is a little bit of a waste of all our time, so I'll be brief:
"Why Won't Clerk Trent Give Your Money Back?" This one requires a little history lesson - The Township enrolled in a plan available to government entities to opt-out of social security and allow employees to elect to put their social security funds into an account that they could control - this is called a "457 Plan." The township made this decision in 1996, or 4 years before Fred Roperti or Linda Hamilton took office, 8 year before David Trent took office, and 14 years before it was "discovered" that some loophole made the township unable to enroll.
And guess what law firm gave the township the "okay" to offer the 457 Plan 14 years ago? Correct, Johnson Rosati, the same superlawyers that were replaced by the township by two separate boards over the years, until resurrected by Team Heyl in 2009. And isn't it nifty that we have the opinion right here with the SuperLawyers stamp of approval on it. (hint: this is what's called "proof" and makes your allegation have a basis in "fact" not in your wild dreams).
Anyone with any legitmate business experience knows that Social Security is well known for being wrong in their demands and opinions. So instead of simply writing a letter to Social Security requiring them to come up with the reason why they accepted Salem Township tax reports as legitimate for 14 years, and require THEM to prove why we do not have a valid exemption, this non-issue is manufactured into an "issue" for political purposes. Or why not ask Johnson Rosati to pony up for their bad advice?
"No," you say, "not Team Heyl." Okay - so when these flyers and township "news" letters state that Roperti, Trent, Hamilton haven't returned the money, isn't it odd that they fail to mention that they've never been asked for the money? Isn't it odd that they want to go after the people that relied upon and were duped by the poor advice of Johnson Rosati 14 years ago, and not go after Johnson Rosati? Isn't it odd that no one thinks that asking Johnson and Rosati to give a legal opinion about the liability of Johnson and Rosati for their 100% erroneous legal opinion 14 years ago is a conflict of interest? Really? No one? I guess no one named Heyl, Uherek, Wallazy or Van Fossen anyway.
"Linda Hamilton is trying to take over the township through the Fire Department." Ummm, I'm going to need to have something to go on with this one before I attempt to explain it, as I have no idea how you do that. How do you "take over" a township from a fire department? Anyone? All I can say is that for the past 2 years Team Heyl has had the majority 4 votes on a 7- member board to do whatever he wanted - so who is he blaming now?
"Don't Let 'Them' Bring Back Fred Roperti and Linda Hamilton!" Let me help you, Salem Watch Dog or Salem Citizens for Half-Truth, or whatever you'd like to call yourself...if Heyl, Uherek and Wallazy are recalled, the time and space continuum does not cease to exisit, we are not suddenly transported to a prior time when Fred and Linda were on the township board. And just who is this "THEM" that are going to bring them back? I want to state right here and now, on and for the record: Fred and Linda have not been cryogenically frozen, they have not been put into a hyperbaric sleep chamber, so there is no need for "THEM" to bring them "BACK" from anywhere.
Brien Witkowski should be recalled because he's "friends" with David Trent. Really? Hmm. I thought that we had Freedom of Association in this country - apparently I'm wrong. So Heyl, Uherek and Wallazy should be recalled because they vote together, right? Apparently the folks that are proudly hiding behind the Poltical Action Committe "Salem Residents for Truth" has a dictionary that defines "truth" as "making up wild, unsupported accusations." That's odd, because I always went with this definition "conformity with fact or reality." I guess you guys consider yourself "non-conformists" with the truth, ah?
